Taking a proactive approach with drone detection technology to prison security is the best method to ensure that these facilities continue to function properly.
FREMONT, CA: The prison system is far from perfect. Despite prison security measures, cell phones, inmates still smuggle drugs, cigarettes, and other contraband through security walls. While phones may be a small concern, some inmates use the phones to run illegal activities, blackmail other inmates, or intimidate witnesses. While prisoners depend on visitors, guards, or inmates to smuggle the phones, drones could be an easier alternative. Drone technology is innovating, and the public has access to tools that, in the wrong hands, could be cause for prison security concerns. Even the prison system is vulnerable to threats by these seemingly innocent unmanned aircraft. Here are the reasons why prisons should consider using drone detection technology.
Drones can carry items, including drugs, weapons, and cell phones. Prisoners may use these items for illegal activities. Implementing an identification system could help reduce violence by mitigating access to items prohibited by prison rules. Not only does this keep inmates protected, but it makes a safer work environment for the officers as well. Prisons have a particular economic system. Because money is a no-go inside jails, inmates utilize items they can purchase at the commissary to trade for several purposes. Drone technology could introduce alternative contraband into the system; exacerbating power struggles with inmates. Preventing the introduction of these items through drones could prevent future problems.
Prisons are already using this type of technology to observe local drone activity. They observed locals flying a drone near their property and weren’t sure what to do. While the drones weren’t a threat, prison security can put the new system to the test and observe ways the technology could guard their facility. These systems can find craft flying in the area, thereby providing security a chance to avoid potential breaches. Detection technology is an alarming system that enables security and law enforcement officials to identify a threat before it is close enough to cause major problems. Using this type of system can ensure that inmates, visitors, and employees are safe from outside threats.
