Governments must prioritize national security and emergency response efforts to recognize and prevent any natural or man-made threats.
FREMONT, CA: Countries have to deal with threats every day. These threats may be social, such as a neighboring country's aggression, terrorist group infiltration, or global economic developments that threaten the nation's welfare. Hazards may be natural, such as hurricanes or viral pandemics. Any danger threatens the strength of a country and interrupts its well-being.
National security and global security are not the same things. A federal government that operates autonomously to protect its people from threats requires national security. A coalition of nations working together to ensure that they can enjoy peace and prosperity requires global security. This is a guiding principle of bodies such as the United Nations.
Identifying possible threats and planning the appropriate response is one of the central obligations of national security. The most critical national security threats and how governments respond to them are discussed here.
Cyberterrorism
Cyberterrorism offers a massive challenge to national security. A global think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, estimates hundreds of cyber-terrorism events in 2020 alone. The hackers are targeting big farms and the defense organizations of various countries so that they can obtain their defense information. The cybercriminals are also infecting the computers of government facilities with malware to gain sensitive internal data. The hackers are also sending fake job offers to infiltrate the systems and recover classified information. These are just some examples of criminals utilizing hacking and other digital schemes to create government bodies' problems.
Types of Cyberterrorism
Cyber-terrorist threats are put into three distinct groups by experts, which are simple-unstructured, advanced-structured, and complex-coordinated.
Complex-coordinated attack- A terrorist uses highly sophisticated hacking instruments to cause mass destruction, targeting an entire organization, state, or country.
Simple-unstructured attack- A terrorist deploys simple hacking tools against a single target using the tools created by someone else.
Advanced-structured attack- A terrorist conducts a more sophisticated and targeted attack against multiple targets.
Protecting Against Cyberterrorism
Governments can take multiple measures against cyberterrorist activities. Governments should also offer corporations and local jurisdictions with guidance, equipping them with best practices for applying good encryption and cybersecurity steps.
