Disaster management saves lives, prevents diseases, and eliminates poverty.
FREMONT, CA: Every year, disasters affect millions of people. In order to reduce suffering and support those affected, disaster management must be effective. The following are some significant reasons why disaster management is important.
Prevents diseases: The number of death caused by disasters is enormous. However, they also pose a health risk to those affected. As a result of disasters, people are frequently exposed to a range of illnesses that can lead to further death. Due to a lack of healthcare facilities, clean water, food, and proper hygiene, infectious diseases, such as malaria, are more likely to occur during and after a disaster. By implementing disaster management practices, communities can improve their health and mitigate the effects of disasters.
Enhances health: Health can be negatively affected by disasters and their aftermaths. Disasters can increase sickness, lower immunity, and increase infection risks combined with poor health services and dirty water. As a result, communities must have access to health professionals, adequate sanitation facilities, and emergency medical care during and after disasters.
Makes a difference in lives: During disasters, a crisis is a fast-moving and changing event. Effective emergency planning and response are crucial in ensuring the safety of individuals and communities. It is impossible to overstate the importance of being well-prepared to handle unexpected situations that threaten lives and property. It is possible for disaster coordination and response to have serious and long-lasting effects on a community, resulting in more deaths. It is also possible to improve the ability of emergency responders to save lives through disaster management. Disasters can cause stress and distress to communities if appropriate infrastructure is not in place and training is not completed to improve disaster response.
Poverty reduction: A natural disaster can have devastating effects on a community. People can be forced into poverty, and entire communities can be transformed. People who are not prepared for a disaster are more likely to remain poor after a disaster. In the event of a disaster, people may not have the basic emergency supplies they need, such as food, water, clothing, and medicine. Communities can mitigate poverty, hunger, and disease by better preparing for disasters.
Stabilizes the economy: Social order, economic activity, and trade can be disrupted by disasters. At their worst, disasters can also lead to insecurity, mistrust, ethnic tensions, hatred, and violence. Unresolved conflicts can harm communities and local security. Alternative sources of security are likely to replace law enforcement agencies for those who rely on law enforcement agencies for security. Crime and violence may increase as a result.
