As natural resources are becoming extinct everyday, households and businesses should adopt sustainable waste management practices to reduce waste production and improve the environmental impact of the waste produced.
Fremont, CA: The circular economy's fundamental principle is sustainable waste management, which provides several opportunities and advantages to the economy, society, and environment. Sustainable waste management aims to limit the number of natural resources utilized by reusing natural materials and producing as little garbage as possible. It reduces the environmental impact of human activities, consequently improving air and water quality. It also cuts down on food waste, lowers environmental costs, and prevents some human health problems, all of which make up for a better quality of life.
Some of the solutions for better and sustainable waste management include:
Less paper usage
Despite the fact that the world is getting more technologically adept, the majority of organizations continue to use paper and ink, which is one of the most wasteful categories. We must reduce our usage of paper and ink in order to become environmentally responsible in the long run. Get rid of paper as much as possible, and instead develop regulations that allow individuals and organizations to go digital, using paper only when absolutely required.
Use the 3 Rs
Reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling conserves energy, prevents waste from being disposed of in landfills or incinerated, and offers raw materials for new products. Whenever possible, reuse things like plastic bottles instead of throwing them immediately after use. Reusing products can help keep them away from becoming huge piles of waste and create a sustainable environment. Instead of eating or drinking in disposable cups and plates, one should use plates or cups that can be used again and again.
Anaerobic digestion of waste
Anaerobic digestion uses fermentation to detoxify organic waste and sludge in the absence of oxygen. The bacteria that reside in the organic matter are shut off from the materials or garbage. It's a more time-consuming process than composting, but it can yield considerably more valuable outcomes. Anaerobic digestion of garbage produces methane, which is a significant component of biogas, a sustainable energy source that may be used to cook, generate heat, and even generate power for the home.
