Smart cities are safer by adopting technologies such as the new 911 system, policing efficiencies, workforce efficiency, and pollution reduction.
FREMONT, CA: Everyday life has become increasingly reliant on technology. Recent advances allow smart cities to become safer, even as many tech innovations make life more entertaining.
It is essential to consider 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI). Urban environments can benefit greatly from these revolutionary technologies. Citizens' safety is a top priority for city leaders.
The significance of these technologies is as follows:
Policing as a preventative measure: With the help of predictive models fueled by big data and data analytics, police forces can identify crime-prone areas and dispatch officers to discourage potential criminals. In preventing crime, police officers can take advantage of the latest AI and machine learning (ML) technologies.
911 Systems that are new and improved: NG911 improves the quality and flow of data police forces use to monitor a city. What if a homeowner experiences a chimney fire? They can then provide officers with crucial information, such as whether the fire is slow-burning or fast-burning, by sending photos or videos.
Over two decades ago, states began modernizing the 911 system.
Utilizing witness information: Through apps and notification systems, police are leveraging witnesses' information to assist them in solving crimes by providing information, photos, and videos.
Citizen, a smartphone application that alerts citizens to 911 updates, connects people with family and friends, and provides instant help from first responders, can be used by smart cities as an example.
A better public transportation system: For city dwellers, a smart city public transportation system makes traveling more efficient and safer. Riders waiting at bus stops or subway stations are less vulnerable when they know accurately when and where transportation will arrive.
Transit Wireless, a leader in 5G and smart cities, partnered with the New York City subway system to focus on connectivity, safety, and rider satisfaction.
Pollution reduction: All over the world, new technology and sensors are being installed in cities. As a result of these technologies, health officials have access to the data they need to develop action items for the city to implement.
For example, many cities suffer from air pollution. Cities can reduce traffic or output from factories in areas with poor air quality using AI monitoring platforms.
