LexaGene Holdings Inc. is a biotechnology company that develops an automated pathogen detection platform for sample collection sites, providing unique usability, sensitivity, and width of pathogen detection. LexaGene’s technology is designed to transform the way organizations perform operations such as food security, veterinary diagnostics, monitoring water quality, and aquaculture pathogen supervision.
Recently, LexaGene announced the formation of a Scientific Consultative Board (SAB), which supports the Corporation in its product positioning and marketing strategy. The SAB is made up of key market opinion leaders, namely food safety, veterinary diagnostics, and open-access markets, including biodefense, in its targeted markets. Dr. Kimothy Smith DVM and Mr. Shawn Stevens JD are among the initial members of the SAB. In the next few months, a five-member advisory board will be added to complement the SAB.

The technology from LexaGene is well-suited to food safety as up to 56 pathogens screen at a time and return in just an hour. Saving time is of significant advantage to industries that must comply with the USDA 'Test and Hold' policy. The high cost of testing using other genetic technology has also prevented widespread adoption, while the low-cost testing LexaGene is projected to lead to extensive use across the food industry.
Stevens is an accredited attorney for the food industry and the founder of Food Industry Counsel LLC, North America’s only law firm that exclusively represents customers in the food industry. Stevens works for some of the world’s leading producers, food manufacturers, restaurant operators, food distributors, and supermarkets in helping them protect their brands through a reduction in food safety risks, compliance with food safety standards of the FDA and USDA, management of recalls, and defense of high-profile foodborne disease claims.
Dr. Smith was the first Chief Veterinary Officer for DHS, and the Chief Scientist of the Office of the Health Affairs, advising Homeland Security Secretary on Food and Agricultural Safety strategies and emergency response plans. Then he became the acting director of the National Center for the Integration of Bio-monitoring. Prior to DHS, Dr. Smith was Senior Operating Deputy Head of the Division Against Terrorism and Incident Response at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) of Lawrence's Non-Proliferation, Arms Control, and International Safety Directorate.
