Working alongside city decision-makers in the public safety sector, IoT can provide a reliable network that will provide safer public conditions across the globe.
FREMONT, CA: Population growth leads to higher-density populations, industrial expansion, and advancing technology, which gives way to more societal complexity and new public safety issues. Public safety agencies are serving an increasing number of communities with different needs while managing new forms of challenges. More resources are required to support their daily lives, and more resources are set in place to accommodate city growth. Growing cities need to solve new demands for evacuation plans and infrastructure durability to guard resources, buildings, and people from natural disaster risks. To address these concerns, governments need to implement IoT technology. Here are some ways IoT can impact public safety needs.
• Improve Law Enforcement
IoT has made a significant impact on law enforcement agencies across the world. Close monitoring of police communications with sensors and body cameras can add robust evidence to criminal cases while also enhancing police accountability. A similar IoT application that enhances the criminal justice system is data collected by smart devices and used as evidence in court cases. Data about a criminal or victim's location, movement, and activity can be traced by a smartwatch or smartphone to unearth evidence in a crime.
• Remote Monitoring
IoT has made significant impacts on emergency care provided in-home, which is especially important for outpatients and people living with life-threatening conditions who regularly require medical care. With the use of a connected wristband that identifies early symptoms of heart attacks and automates a call for help from a smartphone. Similarly, smart contact lenses can send an emergency alert immediately after life-threatening instances. Smart devices and wearables can monitor and report instantaneously on essential health vitals.
• Real-Time Evacuation
There are many opportunities where IoT can combat natural disasters in urban areas. IoT solutions can offer live updates on water levels and pool data to navigate cities' advancing disaster conditions. Roadways susceptible to a disaster like flooding can be outfitted to monitor water levels and signal for closure. In combination with the ability to monitor the supply and demand for precious resources along prescribed evacuation routes, IoT can lead to an increase in public safety regarding uncontrollable natural disasters.
