Here we highlight key areas of cybersecurity that governments need to focus on to deliver the best in digital government:
Cybersecurity is difficult; it is frequently prohibitively expensive, and solid cybersecurity scales more gradually than digital innovation, putting organizations in danger as they adopt new technology.
Fremont, CA: Cybersecurity is not easy; it can be very expensive, and good cybersecurity scales more slowly than digital innovation, putting us at risk as we adopt new technologies. However, this does not mean we can't get cybersecurity done and done right. This year marks the second year of the Coronavirus pandemic, and here we highlight key areas of cybersecurity that governments need to focus on to deliver the best in digital government:
Policy
All of that altered with the coronavirus epidemic. The fast and often unplanned digitization of entire sectors of economic and social activity has pushed the cybersecurity conversation to the forefront. Many firms with totally remote workforces, for example, must now face the realities of their remote workstation data protection and cybersecurity requirements. With so much critical infrastructure and information vulnerable to hackers, cybersecurity could no longer get ignored.
The moment has come to re-examine cybersecurity policy at every level of every enterprise and government. Remote personnel must get briefed on the best practices and methods for keeping data safe online, and governments must implement strict cybersecurity policies to avoid a disaster.
Architecture
One of the most important aspects of digital safety is cybersecurity architecture. Digital systems that got poorly planned or poorly implemented might expose substantial cybersecurity risks. It's not always due to poor technology; cybersecurity is all about how well companies have integrated new technologies into their existing technologies and communication channels, as it is about the quality of the technology itself.
Cybersecurity architecture's importance is nowhere clearer than in today's remote workforces. Governments around the country got forced to shift from an in-person, in-office staff to a remote workforce almost overnight. The shift was a success. Unfortunately, however, several governments deployed remote work technologies far outpaced their current cybersecurity infrastructure.
Operations
Finally, effective cybersecurity necessitates clear and efficient digital operations. COVID-19 quickly dismantled pre-existing impediments to digital government. Faced with the dilemma of shifting to the digital government or trying to keep service continuity during a pandemic, many governments have rapidly and effectively adjusted their daily operations to match their newly discovered digital needs.
