Governments worldwide are facing immense challenges while dealing with cybersecurity, and they must quickly fill the IT skills gap to better face the challenges of cybersecurity.
Fremont, CA: Cybersecurity is the process of preventing and responding to attacks on digital data. Cybercriminals employ their expertise to breach security networks and systems in order to steal data and information. This can result in identity theft and cyber data theft, exposing businesses and individuals to hazards.
Cybersecurity challenges for the government
While many agencies are prone to security breaches, an even greater number are unaware of the type of protected software running on their systems. Only a quarter of government institutions is capable of responding to indicators of a cyber data breach or hack. Federal agencies lack the access to their networks that are necessary to detect and respond to data exfiltration attempts and cybersecurity problems effectively. Only half of the government agencies have procedures in place to communicate cyber hazards throughout their organization.

How can the government solve the cybersecurity challenges?
Employees are the best solution to the cyber security challenge. The cyber security profession will benefit as more people pursue cyber security training and degrees. With more people pursuing degrees in cyber security, the IT skills gap will decrease, and government agencies will have an increased number of people prepared to defend against cyber threats. Numerous colleges provide programs emphasizing the computer science, writing, and research skills required by cyber security professionals. These schools offer IT degrees and certificates, which together help individuals become more competent and prepared for future cyber security issues. Online programs are frequently incredibly advantageous for cyber security students since they allow them to gain experience manipulating various types of software and collaborating online with teachers and peers; they provide a realistic glimpse into daily cybersecurity life. Online programs enable students to finish assignments more quickly and on their own schedule, preparing them to fill the IT skills gap more swiftly. Government agencies require skilled cyber security candidates immediately; thus, obtaining a degree is critical to gaining entry and beginning work to safeguard any country.
