Protecting federal agencies from cyberattacks is a difficult but critical task as more and more information becomes digital.
FREMONT, CA: Hacking and cyber security have become a part of state-sponsored warfare as weapon development. The escalation of geopolitical conflicts between various nations has made it critical to develop cyber defenses in response to increasing cyber risk and achieving equilibrium. The increasingly hostile cyber environment makes security much more difficult and costly for governments and organizations worldwide.
Every day, the government defends itself against tens of thousands of cyberattacks. Some of these cyber-attacks are simple – phishing emails aimed at hopefully duping an unsuspecting federal employee – while others are more sophisticated, targeting the nation's most valuable data assets.
When considering the federal government's mission, consider that agencies house the personal data of every citizen in the country, financial information, national security information, and nearly everything in between. As a result, the government provides hackers with a treasure trove of information.
Government agencies use cybersecurity tools to fight back. The tools to stop hackers have become more sophisticated as they have become more sophisticated. The information must be safeguarded at all stages of its life, from the time it is collected to when it is transmitted, stored, and finally deleted. We understand this challenge at the NIH Information Technology Acquisition & Assessment Center. More importantly, we know the technology that government agencies require to keep information secure.
Given the magnitude and impact of cyber threats, governments must also ensure the availability of a competent workforce to protect their national interests. In this regard, it is estimated that there will be a global shortage of 1.8 million cybersecurity professionals. In such a hostile environment, every government must ensure sufficient manpower and infrastructure to secure its public and national assets.
There are numerous cybersecurity solutions available to agencies. When combined, these cybersecurity solutions assist agencies in protecting their data at various stages of its life. This includes when the data is collected for the first time, when it is transferred between different systems and users, and when it is stored until deleted.
While there are numerous systems, they all serve the same purpose: to provide agencies with visibility into what is happening on their Digital networks and alert technology leaders of suspicious behavior.
