Utah Community Credit Union is the United States first financial institution for Secure, Contactless Mobile-ID.
FREMONT, CA: GET Group North America and the Utah Driver License Division (DLD) announces that Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) is the first financial institution in the state to accept mobile drivers’ licenses (mDLs) as a legal form of identification for all banking transactions. UCCU is a pioneer in Utah's newly launched mDL pilot program, offering Contactless ID banking transactions that ensure safety, security, and accuracy with a simple tap or scan – never requiring the phone to change hands.
Utah is the first state in the United States to pilot a mDL that is fully compliant with international standards, ensuring that citizens can use it as a legal form of identification anywhere in the world. The Utah Department of Licensing and Regulation uses GET Mobile Administrator to issue optional mobile driver's licenses to participants in the state's mDL pilot program. The citizen retains complete control over the data they share, limiting it to necessary to complete their banking transaction.
UCCU is one of the largest financial institutions in Utah, offering mortgage, commercial, and consumer loans and checking accounts, credit and debit cards, and other banking technologies and services. They are the state of Utah's premier financial institution to accept mDLs, continuing their tradition of technological leadership. UCCU uses GET Mobile Verify during the pilot. Mobile driver's licenses are verified contactless at the point of service by any standardized equipment, allowing for verifying identity information while protecting Utah residents' privacy. In addition, cryptographic proof of identification enables UCCU to unequivocally confirm that an individual's identity has not been tampered with, removing the subjectivity associated with visually verifying an ID.
“We are excited to be a pioneer in Utah’s mDL pilot, as we believe standardized mobile IDs provide a more convenient, safe and secure means for our members to entrust their identity information to us,” says Justin Olson, CIO, UCCU. “It has long seemed logical for driver’s licenses and IDs to follow the path of credit cards, and so many other parts of life, by going mobile. The pandemic has really accelerated our pursuit of ways to enable contactless exchanges of information and improve our customer service.”
“UCCU jumped to the front of the pack to accept Utah mDL, and we’re thrilled to announce UCCU as the first of a series of pioneers to accept mDL and help us realize the vision of trusted mobile identities accepted across our great state,” says Chris Caras, Director of the Driver License Division for the State of Utah Department of Public Safety.
