This is where Hayden AI is making a difference. By building an AI-powered traffic management platform with a privacy-by-design approach, Hayden AI is enabling cities to reduce traffic congestion and keep bus lanes clear for buses, thereby increasing public transport reliability and encouraging ridership.
The foundation of Hayden AI was laid when Chris Carson, Ph.D., a serial entrepreneur with a deep passion for technology, was riding a city bus and noticed that the driver was using a camera attached to the bus window to manually click pictures of vehicles wrongfully parked in transit-only lanes. Realizing that the process might inhibit the driver from concentrating on a busy road, Carson decided to leverage a combination of AI and computer vision technology to streamline photo-capture.![]()

Today, Hayden AI’s pioneering smart traffic enforcement platform combines the power of smart sensors and AI-driven analytics to increase municipal fleet vehicle safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The scalable platform allows government agencies to build applications for various use cases, such as the bus lane enforcement solution. This solution comprises an automated camera system mounted behind the bus windshield to capture potential bus lane violators. The captured data is securely analyzed using deep learning algorithms and advanced computer vision, and the violation incident is transferred using government-grade encryption to ensure ultimate data security. To avoid infringing on the privacy of citizens not involved in the incident, the platform only captures information about the transgressor’s vehicle.
“Our AI-based camera systems have a 97 percent accuracy rate to perceive, map, and understand their environment, and deliver state-of-the-art traffic management with real-time insights on violation events,” states Vaibhav Ghadiok, Co-founder and Executive VP of Engineering at Hayden AI.
This solution is helping transit agencies improve and minimize bus lane congestion caused by illegally parked vehicles, while facilitating safer bus onboarding and offboarding at the stops. How Hayden AI’s successes are setting a benchmark in the domain can be best reflected through recent work with one transit agency that was experiencing issues keeping new bus lanes clear. Using the Hayden AI platform, one bus recorded 709 violations in 30 days – a figure not possible using just manual enforcement. The solution helped the transit agency improve commute times, reduce wait times at bus stops, limit vehicle crowding, and increase bus schedule reliability.
Driven by such success stories, more and more government agencies are embracing AI-powered smart city technologies to deliver better outcomes to the citizens. Hayden AI plans to stay at the helm of those implementations by banking on its unique privacy-by-design approach to innovative govtech solutions.

Description
Hayden AI’s pioneering smart traffic enforcement platform combines the power of smart sensors and AI-driven analytics to increase municipal fleet vehicle safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The company’s scalable platform allows transit agencies to build applications for various use cases
SAN FRANCISCO - Hayden AI, a global leader in artificial intelligence and machine learning, has been awarded a patent for its traffic enforcement data management system using blockchain. The patent was awarded on August 15, 2023 and is labeled US Patent number 11,727,795 B1.
Traditionally, instances of traffic enforcement recorded through automated enforcement systems are forwarded to a network for examination by relevant stakeholders, such as traffic enforcement officers. However, there has been no established mechanism to ensure the authenticity and integrity of these digital evidence packages as they move through various internal and external devices and undergo reviews.
Hayden AI introduces a blockchain-powered data management technology that leverages a distributed ledger to monitor every transaction of data using a unique and non-reproducible identifier generated through cryptographic operations. This system establishes a verifiable chain of custody for each traffic enforcement evidence package, maintaining a comprehensive record of every instance when the data is processed, altered, or reviewed. Additionally, it enhances data security by breaking it down into individual components and tracing them through multiple blockchain records.
“Keeping governments safe from cyberattacks is critical to the success of camera-assisted traffic enforcement programs. Our improved, verifiable chain of custody technology makes this possible,” said Bryan Shea, Vice President of Data Security and Privacy at Hayden AI and former Criminal Intelligence leader at the Chicago Police Department. “We’re so proud to receive this patent because it cements our status as a data management and security leader in vision-based automated traffic enforcement.”
Hayden AI holds a prominent position as the leader in the US market for mobile automated bus lane enforcement and bus stop enforcement. They have successfully deployed more than 650 camera systems on transit buses throughout the country. These camera systems play a crucial role in detecting and recording numerous instances of traffic obstructions that disrupt transit services. In response to this need, Hayden AI has developed an innovative system for data security, transmission to relevant government agencies, and validation of data accuracy.
