August-20166GOVERNMENT CIO OUTLOOKEDITORIALAn Intelligence-driven Approach Dreadful terror attacks and sophisticated cybersecurity risks are increasingly threatening the safety of nations, leaving them exposed to uncertainties. To minimize the incidence and clear up the aftermath, post 9/11, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been employing intelligence-driven approaches to power up security efforts.Be it in customs, border, and immigration enforcement, emergency response to natural and man-made disasters or cybersecurity, private bodies that specialize in homeland security technologies today support DHS to put their security strategies in place. Both governments and private companies are investing heavily on big data, IoT, mobility, and cybersecurity tools to make this happen. From multi-hazard sensors and trace detection technologies to facial recognition devices, DHS is leveraging technologies to remotely identify and track employees, victims, and assets in disaster zones, ensuring safety and security. Alongside, DHS is also using mobile applications like eFOIA, FEMA App, and U.S. Coast Guard App to submit FOIA requests, and receive disaster safety tips.Whether it is prevention or recovery from an attack, the scope of homeland security technology covers emergency preparedness and response across the land. With the growing rate of technology-enabled security tools, DHS supporters are focusing on border security and infrastructure protection through a combination of barriers, patrols, and surveillance. Also, computer networks that integrate these elements promise to improve security and lower costs. As DHS aims to forge effective partnerships with private companies to implement integrated technologies to effectively fulfill their missions, our aim with this special edition is to highlight some of the innovative players in the market. In this edition of Government CIO Outlook, we present to you the Top 20 Homeland Security Solution Providers 2016. We hope this edition will give you an in depth knowledge on the technologies and tools that complement the efforts to protect the nation's assets and assure prosperity.
